Spent last night in an airport hotel, as our flight was 0855. Jumped on a bus and went to Rockdale for dinner, a little adventure that went well. We flew economy class and it wasn’t as squishy as we’d expected, but 6 or 7 hours in to a 9 hour flight, I remembered why I wasn’t keen to fly economy, but premium wasn’t an option on this flight.
The immigration process when arriving in Japan was supposed to be made easier by going online before arrival, completing the required information and being given a QR code at the end of it. Not so in our case. Still not really sure what went wrong, but it took much longer than it should and Trevor kept running foul and being sent back. He was even asked to fill out the paper immigation form.
By the time we finally got through, bought our Suica card (like our Opal card but with more ways to pay for things with it) and found where to get the ‘Airport Limousine Bus’ tickets, we just made the last bus to our area on the night. I thought a short walk from the bus stop to our hotel would be nice – stretch our legs in the cool of the evening. Wrong again! While the walk was nice, it was still soooo hot!!! At 9pm!! Note to self, next visit to Japan, come in winter!
We’re staying at the Citadines Harbour Front Hotel in Yokohama and have a room with a harbour view. Turns out we have a gun barrel view of the pier that our ship will depart from. Diamond Princess, from Osanbashi Pier.
